At Anniston Academy, we believe that every child deserves an education tailored to their unique strengths, challenges, and learning style. Our admissions process is designed to ensure that each student receives the individualized support and resources they need to thrive in a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment.
Our Individualized Education Approach
Every student at Anniston Academy receives a Personalized Learning & Support Plan (PLSP), developed through a comprehensive assessment process. This plan outlines:
-
Academic Strengths & Growth Areas – Identifying how each student learns best.
-
Social-Emotional & Behavioral Needs – Supporting self-regulation, peer interactions, and emotional growth.
-
Therapeutic & Special Support Services – Incorporating speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral supports, or sensory and visual aid accommodations as needed.
-
Individualized Teaching Strategies – Ensuring multi-sensory, play-based, and developmentally appropriate learning methods.
Admissions & Assessment Process
1. Inquiry & Initial Consultation
-
Families begin by completing an interest form or contacting our admissions team.
-
A one-on-one consultation is scheduled to discuss the child’s learning style, strengths, needs, and any previous evaluations.
2. Student Observation & Assessment
-
Each prospective student participates in a classroom visit or play-based assessment, where our team observes:
🔹 Academic readiness and engagement
🔹 Social interaction and communication skills
🔹 Sensory processing, motor skills, and behavioral regulation -
For students with existing IEPs, 504 plans, or therapy reports, our team will review past evaluations to guide placement and support planning.
3. Family & Educator Collaboration
-
Parents/caregivers meet with our interdisciplinary team, including educators, therapists, and behavioral specialists, to review assessment results.
-
If needed, additional screenings (speech, occupational, or behavioral assessments) may be recommended to ensure proper placement and services.
4. Personalized Learning & Support Plan (PLSP) Development
-
Our team creates an individualized plan that outlines:
🔹 Classroom placement & learning goals
🔹 Any necessary accommodations or interventions
🔹 Therapeutic services or additional supports (if applicable)
🔹 Strategies to foster social, emotional, and executive functioning skills
5. Enrollment & Integration
-
Once the PLSP is finalized, students are officially welcomed into Anniston Academy!
-
A transition plan is developed to ensure a smooth adjustment, including classroom visits, teacher introductions, and a personalized welcome experience.
-
Our team maintains ongoing collaboration with families, ensuring that plans are reviewed and adjusted regularly based on the child’s progress.
