A Day in the Life at Anniston Academy: Where Nature, Nurture, and Academics Meet

Here’s what a typical day looks like at our Cookeville autism center:

✨ Literacy & Social Studies (120 minutes)

All classrooms have a dedicated literacy block of a minimum of 120 minutes, with integrated learning experiences that blend reading, writing, history, and culture. This extended block allows students to dive deep into stories, explore new perspectives, and engage in meaningful conversations—all while building essential communication skills.

🔢 Math (60 minutes)

Our math instruction is hands-on, purposeful, and tailored to each child's developmental level. Whether students are working with manipulatives, solving real-world problems, or exploring number patterns, they are encouraged to think critically and confidently.

🌿 Nature Study & Science/STEM (60 minutes)

At Anniston, science happens in the lab and under the trees. Our students explore life cycles, build simple machines, and learn environmental stewardship through a mix of forest learning, STEM activities, and nature-based inquiry. Curiosity drives the experience.

💛 Character Education (30 minutes)

Kindness, resilience, empathy, and responsibility aren’t just values—they’re skills we teach daily. During our Character Education block, students learn how to navigate emotions, build friendships, and contribute to their communities with compassion.

🛝 Recess (60 minutes)

Children need space to move, imagine, and connect. Recess is unstructured, screen-free, and outdoors whenever possible. It’s more than a break—it’s a vital part of developing social-emotional skills and self-regulation.

🎨 Specials (60 minutes)

From music therapy, life skills, creative arts, PE, and more--our Specials allow students to explore creative interests and build new skills. These enrichment opportunities also provide critical planning time for teachers, ensuring instruction stays personalized and intentional.
