The Individualized Education Account (IEA) Program through the Tennessee Department of Education provides eligible families with public funds to help cover private school tuition and other approved educational expenses for students with disabilities and an existing IEP.

Who is Eligible for Tennessee's IEA Program?

To qualify for the IEA Program, a student must:

• Be a Tennessee resident

• Be in grades K–12

• Have an active Individualized Education Program (IEP) (not a 504 plan)

• Have been enrolled in a Tennessee public school for at least one full school year (some exceptions apply)

• Have one of the following qualifying disabilities:

  • Autism

  • Deaf-blindness

  • Hearing impairment

  • Intellectual disability

  • Orthopedic impairment

  • Traumatic brain injury

  • Visual impairment
