The First Behavior Technician Appreciation Day: The Ones Who Show Up

Behavior Technician Appreciation Day image

Today is the very first Behavior Technician Appreciation Day, and it just feels important to say this out loud.

Our Behavior Technicians are the ones on the floor during the hard moments. Not figuratively, actually sitting there beside a child who is overwhelmed. Staying close when things escalate. Being the calm when everything else feels anything but calm.

They’re the ones who notice the little things. The glance. The attempt. The almost word. The moment a child chooses connection instead of frustration. The things most people might miss, they don’t. They see them, and they celebrate them like they matter, because they do.

They’re the ones our kids trust.

And that kind of trust is built slowly. It comes from showing up the same way, every day. From being patient even when it’s hard. From being someone a child knows is safe.

This job is not easy. It’s exhausting. It’s emotional. It asks you to stay calm when someone else can’t. It asks you to be present all day long, even on the days when you’re tired. It asks a lot. And still, they show up.

Inside our classrooms, we see it. We see the long afternoons. We see the moments you choose connection over control. We see the way you sit with our kids through the hard things instead of walking away. And we see what comes from that. Because this work changes lives. Not always in big, obvious ways, but in the quiet progress that builds over time. A child finding their voice. A child feeling safe. A child starting to believe they can do hard things.

That happens because of behavior technicians. They continue to show up, even when they are hit, kicked, spit on, cursed at, and scratched and we’re lucky they do because their work truly changes lives.

So today, on this very first Behavior Technician Appreciation Day, we just want to say something simple.

We see you.

We appreciate you.

And we’re really, really grateful for you.
