What Makes Our Classrooms Different

At first glance, a classroom may look like a classroom—tables, materials, students, teachers. But what happens inside that space, and how it is designed to support learners, makes all the difference.

At Anniston Academy, our classrooms are intentionally built to support the whole child. They are structured, supportive, and responsive—designed not just for academic instruction, but for regulation, growth, and long-term success.

Led by Licensed Educators

Our classrooms are led by licensed teachers who are trained in child development, evidence-based instruction, and special education practices. Teaching is a profession, and our students deserve educators who understand how learning works, how to adapt instruction, and how to respond thoughtfully to individual needs.

Licensure brings expertise, accountability, and oversight—ensuring instruction is intentional, ethical, and effective.

Integrated Academic and Clinical Support

Learning does not happen in isolation. Our classrooms integrate academic instruction with clinical supports so skills generalize across the day. Teachers collaborate closely with therapists to reinforce communication, regulation, and functional skills within real learning contexts.

This collaboration allows students to practice skills meaningfully—not just during therapy sessions, but throughout their daily routines.

Intentional Structure and Predictability

Our classrooms are structured environments with clear expectations, consistent routines, and predictable transitions. This structure supports emotional regulation, reduces anxiety, and helps students engage more fully in learning.

Structure is not rigidity—it is the framework that allows students to feel safe, confident, and capable.

Data-Informed, Not Test-Driven

We use data to guide instruction, but we do not rely on excessive testing. Progress is monitored through observation, work samples, skill tracking, and individualized goals. This allows teachers to adjust instruction in real time while preserving valuable teaching time.

The focus stays on growth, not constant measurement.

Designed for Neurodivergent Learners

Our classrooms are intentionally designed to support a wide range of learners, including students with autism, ADHD, and other learning differences. Sensory supports, flexible seating, movement opportunities, and outdoor learning are built into the day to help students regulate and engage.

When environments are designed with neurodivergent learners in mind, all students benefit.

Accountability and Oversight

We operate within state and federal guidelines, with policies, documentation, and oversight in place to protect students and families. This accountability ensures consistency, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

Families deserve to know who is responsible for their child’s education—and how that responsibility is upheld.

The Difference You Can Feel

What makes our classrooms different isn’t a single program or buzzword. It’s the combination of qualified educators, integrated support, intentional structure, and ethical practice—working together to create an environment where students can truly thrive.

At Anniston Academy, our classrooms are not designed for convenience or trends. They are designed for children.
